For a Converged World
...the right technology, the right time, the right choice.
Aspire from NEC allows you to converge your voice and data network and enjoy the many advantages of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) while enjoying the hundreds of features you ’ve come to expect from traditional digital/analog switching. Aspire lets your organization benefit from the potential cost-saving advantages of IP even if you ’re not ready to migrate to 100% IP Telephony immediately. That ’s because Aspire gives you a choice: You can deploy traditional circuit-switched technology, VoIP or a combination, all from one system! You have the freedom to adopt VoIP when and where you need it.

What is Peer-to-Peer Switching?
“Peer-to-peer ”switching means that the stations participating in a call are connected directly to each other through the IP network. The signals travel through the IP network but do not “go through the switch as they do in traditional telephony. The fact that Aspire can function in and support a hybrid network with traditional digital/analog switching, IP/TDM/IP switching and pure peer-to-peer IP switching means that users can continue to utilize their existing equipment while they begin to phase in IP Telephony and lay the foundation for current and future networks.

Reduced Costs of Peer-to-Peer IP Connectivity
• Maintain one network rather than two
• Bypass the long distance carrier by sending voice calls over the data network
• Single cable termination to the desktop
• Reduced brick and mortar expenses by deploying main office features to remote personnel

Aspire’s elegant sophisticated design delivers productivity and versatility to your work environment.

Aspire’s Voice over IP (VoIP) capability allows you to place voice calls over the data network. VoIP reduces long distance charges by using IP to connect multiple office locations and telecommuters. Remote workers also have access to main office features, such as voice mail, allowing offices to operate as a single unit.

AspireMail, an optional digitally linked in-switch voice mail, provides sophisticated features that save time and money. Return call with Caller ID saves caller ID information for inside-and outside-originated calls. Answering Machine Emulation is helpful when you are waiting for an important call.It lets you listen while a caller is leaving a message for you. Message Center Keys allow two people sharing the same phone to have their own message waiting key. Each person can see if he/she has new messages. Conversation Record saves and records your conversation into your mailbox with the touch of a button. Park and Page allows a caller to page you before leaving a message. You can pick up the call from any station.

Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) distributes calls evenly among member agents and provides initial and repetitive announcements that encourage callers to remain online. Callers can leave a message if they choose to receive a callback from an agent. Optional PC-based Supervisor with Reports can be used for agent scheduling.

Wireless/Cordless phones keep employees connected while away from their desk. Aspire provides a variety of mobility solutions to connect your whole campus or just your office.

System maintenance allows for online HTML-based programming access either onsite or over the Internet. Using browser software simplifies the process for changing names or speed dial settings. Special PC software is available for off-line programming and remote access by modem.

Call Logging saves information about incoming and outgoing calls. Logged calls can be redialed or saved to speed dial.

Aspire’s Automatic Route Selection (ARS) system decides whether to place a call with a long distance carrier, over IP or, if allowed, a local trunk. You specify how you want your calls to be routed.

E911 Compatibility identifies the origination of an E911 call so emergency services can reach the specific extension location quickly.

Integrated Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS Voice Mail and Automated Attendant

Voice Mail for the Growing Business
With Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS, you’ll get one-touch access to your most frequently used integrated voice mail features. Use the voice mail features you need the most – like Calling Your Mailbox and Leaving a Message for a co-worker just by pressing a single key. Use this same key to check your Message Count Display to see how many messages you have waiting in your mailbox. One touch “Soft” keys make it easy to manage your voice mail messages. And, while you’re on a call, just a few touches can also Transfer your call directly to a co-worker’s mailbox. For those important messages, mark them Urgent (for priority treatment) and/or Confidential (for the recipient only).

Have you ever been on the phone with a client or customer and not been able to take notes fast enough? With Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS, just press the programmed Conversation Record key to record the call directly into your mailbox. Later on, review the recorded conversation for important details you may have missed.
Integration for the Way You Really Work
If you can’t be at your desk to take calls, press the Call Forward key and Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS will immediately send calls to your mailbox. In addition, your system can Automatically Forward calls when you are busy or can’t answer. When your mailbox answers, the caller hears your personal prerecorded Mailbox Greeting and is asked to leave a message. You can record Multiple Greetings (up to 3) and easily select the one you want your callers to hear.
Using the optional Caller ID from your phone system, Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS stores the telephone number of a caller that left a message in your mailbox. After you listen to the message, Make Call lets you quickly call the person back without manually dialing. The sophisticated Automated Attendant ensures that your calls are answered and routed quickly and efficiently.
Hesitant to leave your desk until that important call comes in? Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS Park and Page can automatically park that call and page you over an in-house paging system with your own pre-recorded announcement. You can then answer the call from any extension. You won’t miss that important call and you’ll be free to take care of other business away from your desk.
New users will appreciate the First Time Tutorial that automatically guides them through all the Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS power features. While you’re busy at your desk, use the Aspire Mail/Aspire Mail DMS Answering Machine Emulation to screen your calls just like your answering machine at home. You can choose to answer that important call, listen to the caller without answering, or let it go through to your mailbox.
Aspire Mail DMS is available in two versions: 4 ports and 8 ports (both expandable to 16 ports). Both versions provide 1400 hours of message storage and 2000 mailboxes. Configuration options are easily customized using the Aspire Mail DMS embedded web server and your WindowsTM PC browser. Aspire Mail DMS is required for Desktop Messaging and Desktop Call Control.
Aspire Mail provides 4 voice mail ports (expandable to 8), 30 hours of message storage and 200 mailboxes. Customization is via the provided WindowsTM based Admin Program.

All New System Architecture Built for the 21st Century.

NEC’s legendary reliability and quality standards are evident in the innovative DS1000/2000 32-bit architecture. This new concept features Digital Signal Processor (DSP) technology, on-board flash memory and field software upgradeability that means you can grow the system as you grow your business – while keeping your initial installation investment in common equipment intact.

The compact DS1000 starts with 3 lines, 8 stations and 4 analog ports. It expands to 6 lines, 16 stations and 8 analog ports just by plugging in a single expansion board. The basic DS2000 system is available with 4 slots and 48 ports. It is easily expandable to 8 slots and 104 ports by upgrading to a 104-port cabinet.

All this new technology does not come at the expense of easy installation! Easily wall-mountable cabinets and simplified one-pair wiring mean your initial installation and future add-ons can be quick and economical.

Small system owners will appreciate the convenience of built-in features such as Caller ID to identify incoming callers even before the call is answered. Caller ID logging lets you keep a record of incoming calls, Make Call makes it easy to call them back and Caller ID Check lets you check the calling number of a call answered by another telephone even while that call is in progress. The DS1000 includes built-in interfaces for industry standard telephones which can include cordless instruments as well as Caller ID phones. Plus the DS1000 has a built-in interface for a door answer box.

Larger firms have many workgroup features from which to choose, such as Call Coverage on any phone, Extension Hunting, Group Call Pickup and Multi-party Conference. Caller ID Groups lets different departments keep a record of calls in a Caller ID Log reserved for that department. As the demands on the phone system increase, DS1000/2000 is right there with advanced features like full IntraMail Voice Mail Integration (highlighted by flexible “Soft” keys, Conversation Record and Answering Machine Emulation.)

Integrated VoiceMail Helps Increase Productivity and Savings

The DS family of products offers an integrated voice mail system called IntraMail in two different models: a 4 port/4 hour system; or an 8 port/8 hour system. Both systems can have up to 160 mailboxes and offer Interactive “Soft” Keys on display telephones.

IntraMail has features such as Automated Attendant, which helps incoming calls get answered and routed quickly and efficiently, and Fax Detection, which maximizes use of your telephone lines. Conversation Record lets you record a conversation when you can’t take notes fast enough. Answering Machine Emulation lets you screen calls to filter out unimportant calls before you answer. Directory Dialing lets incoming callers dial you by name, and Remote Message Notification can let you know of a voice message left after hours.

The DS2000 with T1 capability lets you take advantage of the cost savings often available when using a T1 digital transmission connection from your serving telephone company. It can also give you the flexibility of Direct Inward Dialing (DID) or E&M Tie Line signaling.

The DS family has the added time-saving convenience of PC programming. This feature can save time and money because you can perform system programming remotely through an external modem. The systems continue to have phone programming so Moves, Adds and Changes can be handled quickly.

There is no need for an office infrastructure upgrade since NVM-Desktop Messaging is compatible with industry-standard TCP-IP networks (such as Microsoft, Novell and Lantastic). In addition, NVM-Desktop Messaging works with the most popular office operating systems: Windows 95, Windows 3.1/3.11, Windows NT and Windows for Workgroups.
Consolidate messaging between NVM-Series Voice Mail and a host of popular email programs.
NVM-Desktop Messaging compatibility with leading email protocols helps you preserve and build on your employee’s knowledge base. Using the simplified email setup screens, each employee can quickly configure their desktop to work with popular MAPI, MHS, VIM and Banyan Vines based email programs. They can then just double-click to read, send, forward or reply to an email within the native mail program.
Easy-to-use features that extend the capabilities of your NVM-Series Voice Mail system.
You’ll get immediate productivity gains from the simplicity and elegance of NVM-Desktop Messaging. For example, using a convenient address-book interface you can quickly send voice messages to co-workers or lists of co-workers. This extends the message distribution power already in your email program to your voice messaging.

"REMOTE EMPLOYEES WON’T FEEL REMOTE ANYMORE"

If you’ve ever worked in a remote office, you know why they call them remote. Remote employees usually have had to settle for second-rate services because the technology was not available or the costs of duplicating resources were too high.

Now, imagine providing better services to your branch employees and your customers with minimum additional investment.

NEC’s Distributed Voice Solutions affordably extends the features and functionality of existing corporate voice systems to:
  • Branch Offices
  • Remote Call Center Agents
  • Telecommuters
  • Mobile Workers
across traditional and
next-generation networks.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
With NEC’s i-Series Branch Extender for branch offices, off-premise workers can now enjoy the features of the corporate KTS/PBX, from wherever they are located. No more feeling of seclusion from co-workers and corporate resources.

The i-Series Branch Extender delivers quality voice over circuit-switched and managed packet networks.

The i-Series Branch Extender supports two proprietary protocols: Remote Voice Protocol (RVP)™ and Remote Voice Protocol over IP (RVPoIP)™. One or more i-Series Branch Extenders can be terminated at one i-Series Gateway located at the corporate office. The i-Series Branch Extender is available in 8-port and 12-port configurations.

A proprietary remote voice protocol turns digital voice and phone signaling into highly efficient data packets. Sophisticated software features include a G.165-compliant echo canceller enhanced with extremely robust double-talk performance and a range of industry standard voice compression options.

i-Series Branch Extender for branch offices enables you to provide full corporate PBX capabilities over an existing data network, making voice and data convergence a reality.
The i-Series Branch Extender has been designed for operational simplicity, freeing branch employees from administrative tasks. All of the system’s configuration, operation, and administrative and diagnostic functions may be managed using a serial connection, Telnet, dial-up modem or an inband network connection from an i-Series Gateway. This flexibility allows you to maximize your company’s network administration resources and lowers operating costs.

The i-Series Gateway is a high performance unit that resides at the corporate voice system and terminates up to twelve remote users from any combination of NEC remote voice solutions including:

i-Series Branch Extender

i-Series Single IP Extender

The i-Series Gateway operates in Remote Voice Protocol over IP (RVPoIP)™ mode to an IP network or serial Remote Voice Protocol (RVP)™ mode over a traditional network.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
With NEC’s i-Series Gateway, your remote workers can now enjoy all the features of your corporate PBX, wherever they are located. That’s because the i-Series Gateway extends all the capabilities of your KTS/PBX to remote employees over circuit or packet networks.

The i-Series Gateway can be configured to operate in either a managed IP packet network or a point-to-point synchronous WAN environment over traditional networks. In a traditional WAN environment, up to two i-Series Branch Extenders can connect into the i-Series Gateway with Remote Voice Protocol (RVP)™ using voice signal encapsulation in HDLC packets over a serial port connection.

REMOTE VOICE PROTOCOL OVER IP (RVPoIP)
To extend remote voice capability over a managed IP network, simply install an i-Series Gateway at your corporate site and then choose a combination of remote IP client units to meet your needs. Up to 12 ports can be terminated at the i-Series Gateway. Branch offices, teleworkers and remote call center agents can be connected using standard IP network termination devices such as IP routers and DSL or cable modems.

As long as the IP network can be managed to ensure sufficient bandwidth and Quality of Service (QoS), the NEC solution will deliver high quality voice.

You can extend full corporate PBX capabilities over IP networks making voice and data convergence a reality.

A Remote Voice Protocol converts digital voice and phone signals into highly efficient data packets. Sophisticated software features include G-165 compliant echo canceller enhanced with robust double-talk performance, manufacturer provided PBX protocols and a range of industry standard voice compression options.

MANAGEMENT FEATURES
NEC’s business voice solutions have been designed for operational simplicity. All of the systems configuration, management and administrative and diagnostic functions may be managed from the i-Series Gateway using a serial connection, Telnet or an inband network connection from a remote client. This flexibility allows you to maximize your company’s system administration resources and lower the operating costs.

With a powerful array of Hotel/Motel management features built in, i-Series co-ordinates your essential services and puts convenient guest features only an arm’s length away.
  • Do Not Disturb
  • DSS Console Monitoring
  • Flexible Numbering Plan
  • Message Waiting
  • Room Status
  • Room Status Printouts
  • Room to Room Call Restriction
  • Single Digit Dialing
  • Toll Restriction (when Checked-in)
  • Wake Up Call
Use your i-Series as the cornerstone of a fully integrated lodging management system team.

Add the NVM-Series with optional lodging software for basic Hotel/Motel Voice Mail services. Check-in at the front desk automatically activates a guest’s mailbox, while checkout archives unanswered messages. In addition, each guest has a handy Wake Up Call (with snooze alarm) and a first time tutorial to guide them through the Voice Mail features.

For more sophisticated applications, PMSi allows your i-Series telephone system, optional NVM-PMSi Voice Mail and third-party PMS system to work together in providing an unparalled level of facility management. Using unique Message Bus technology, PMSi automates many routine facility management tasks by instantly exchanging room status, guest services and call record data. For example, check in a guest at the reservation terminal and automatically update room status, call restriction and enable the guest’s mailbox. At check-out, the PMSi team works together to notify housekeeping, add outside call charges to the guest’s bill and automatically deactivate their mailbox.

Home > Products > i-Series > inDepth
InDepth+ enhances the i-Series ACD through WindowsTM -based real time statistics and reports on ACD group traffic patterns and usage. Communicating through the Open Application Interface (OAI), inDepth+ is an extensive set of user-configurable Real Time Windows and Reporter subsystems offering:

Real Time Status Window . . .
displaying vital agent status, state and connection information.

Real Time Statistics Window . . .
providing a visual performance summary for lines, agents and ACD groups.

Call Queue and Wait Time Windows . . .
showing the number of calls waiting and the longest wait time, as well as the number of calls answered and abandoned.

Wallboard Template . . .
motivating and informing agents through a dynamic display of real time statistics and messages.
Reporter . . .
allowing ACD system administrators to create fully-configurable reports for display and printing.
InDepth offers many of the MIS capabilities of inDepth+ but is streamlined for more modest ACD applications. InDepth provides a single real time screen template, up to seven reports and can track report data for up to one full month. Although loaded with ACD/MIS capabilities like Report View/Print and Audible/Visual Alarms, inDepth excludes the Sub-Supervisor Positions and Wallboard Support.
The inView LAN Wallboard provides an agent's desktop PC with ACD/MIS wallboard capability. InView software is installed on an agent's PC, which is then connected via LAN to the inDepth computer. This allows the agent's PC to display real time ACD group activity in an on-screen PC wallboard. Each PC with an inView LAN Wallboard installed has the same requirements as the PC dedicated to the inDepth system. The inView LAN Wallboard provides two different views: the Status View and the Wallboard View.
Status View . . .
allows the inView user to monitor the status of an ACD or extension group.
Wallboard View . . .
provides the inView user with a display of any of the large character windows available in inDepth+. The user can customize the Wallboard View to meet their application requirements. The Wallboard View can also receive messages and pop-up alarms.

Powerful office communications.
Ready for world-wide networking.
Easily tailored for every user.
The i-Series ISDN compatible office communications systems are ready today to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Unique multiple-processor architecture, enhanced with Digital Signal Processor (DSP) technology, provides a solid yet flexible foundation for reliability, adaptability and performance. With three 64K channels at each extension, the i-Series is poised to integrate with the growing worldwide voice and data network.
The 28i is the ideal system for the growing office. Its wall mountable KSU provides space saving convenience and easy installation. The 28i supports ISDN BRI, DID and many more sophisticated “big system” features that are often absent in small office systems.
Configured as a compact key system, 124i is perfect for the small, active office. Add telephone data devices and multi-port data modules and 124i is an instant voice/data hybrid network.
Migrate into 704i common equipment, add digital and analog single line telephones and achieve PBX capabilities suitable for large offices - even Hotel/Motel applications. The 704i includes a built-in Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) package that can be enhanced with optional inDepth MIS software for custom traffic and agent reports. The inView LAN Wallboard can be used with inDepth to provide an agent's desktop PC with ACD/MIS wallboard capability. And 704i's multi-tenant capabilities make the system your logical choice for growing office complexes and multi-location corporations. The 704i offers a new generation of enhancements for the legendary i-Series telephone system - greater capacity with field-proven equipment cabinets and enhanced performance.
With expansive feature sets, you can quickly customize the i-Series to meet the most demanding application challenges. ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI) and Basic Rate Interface (BRI), along with T1 capability (including ANI/DNIS), simplify the most intensive trunking requirements. Advanced features like Automatic Route Selection (ARS) are built right into the system, not expensive options. Other features like Conferencing (four and eight party), Repeat Dialing and the six-port Voice Announce Unit make call handling a breeze. And the i-Series is fully integrated with NEC's powerful NVM-Series of Voice Mail/Automated Attendant systems.
The i-Series Voice-IP Gateway seamlessly integrates with the i-Series to bring the promise of Intranet/Internet Telephony to your business today!
With NEC’s i-Series Gateway, your remote workers can now enjoy all the features of your corporate PBX, wherever they are located. That’s because the i-Series Gateway extends all the capabilities of your KTS/PBX to remote employees over circuit or packet networks.
With NEC’s i-Series Branch Extender for branch offices, off-premise workers can now enjoy the features of the corporate KTS/PBX, from wherever they are located. No more feeling of seclusion from co-workers and corporate resources.
NEC’s i-Series Single IP Extender provides a teleworker or remote call center agent with the same digital telephone set and all the features they have in the corporate office or call center. By sending the voice traffic and signaling over a managed IP network back to an i-Series Gateway located at the corporate site, the i-Series Single IP Extender allows voice traffic to be seamlessly carried over an existing data network.

Feature Overview
Calling a Co-Worker With a Hotline button, you can Intercom frequently called co-workers, Transfer a call and even see at a glance if they're on another call. If you must leave your desk, use your Alphanumeric Display to find out who called while you were out. When you must get through to an associate right away, you can get through even if they are on another call.
Outside Calls You can Answer Outside Calls that ring your phone or flash your line/loop keys. Your Ring Group sets the way calls ring your phone, and they can ring differently during the day, at night or on weekends and holidays. Caller ID (with TAPI compatible third-party software) can display your caller's account information before you even answer their call. While you're on a call, use Reverse Voice Over to talk privately to a co-worker without putting your call on Hold.

Place Outside Calls by pressing your line/loop keys, dialing simple codes or just lifting the handset. To control costs, your system may have you enter Account Codes before your call goes through. Once your call goes through, the Call Timer shows how long you're on the phone.
Handling and Rerouting Your Calls Use Hold to have your call wait at your phone, or Park it in orbit for a co-worker. Don't know where a co-worker is? Use Meet Me Paging Transfer so they can pick it up where ever they are. You can also have the call automatically come back when your co-worker is done.

When you leave your desk, forward your calls to someone else, to your
NVM-Series voice mailbox or Off-Premise to your car phone or home office. Your system may also have Fixed Call Forwarding that reroutes your calls automatically when they're not picked up.
When Your Call Can't Go Through Don't just hang up when your call can't get through to a co-worker! Use Call Waiting to wait without hanging up. Send your co-worker Off Hook Signals to let them know you're waiting. If you don't have time to wait, leave a Callback request that automatically alerts you when they become free. There's no need to keep redialing your outside call if it's busy or unanswered use Repeat Redial to have the system retry it automatically.

In a hurry? Think about leaving your co-worker a
Message Waiting, or use the NVM-Series voice mail to record a voice message for them. You can also use your voice mailbox to record your own conversations.

With
Voice Over, talk to a busy user while they keep talking to their initial caller. Also, while you're busy, your phone's keys show when there is another call waiting. You may even hear an off-hook voice announcement from your co-worker on the second appearance.
Placing Calls Quickly Store numbers you call often and easily dial them with just a few key presses. To quickly retry the number you just dialed, try Last Number Redial. Use Memo Dial to jot a number down in your phone's memory instead of writing it down. With Directory Dialing, select a co-worker or outside call from a list of names, rather than dialing the phone number.
When You Work in Groups If you and your co-worker's handle each other's calls, set up an ACD or Department Calling group. Someone calling your group's number goes through to anyone who's available. To answer a call already ringing a co-worker's phone, use Group Call Pickup, Directed Call Pickup or a Call Coverage key. When you're on a call and you want the others in your area to listen in on the conversation, activate Group Listen.

Have a Telephone
Meeting
Conference allows you to quickly set up a telephone meeting. Have others join your outside call just by pressing a line key. Use Meet Me Conference to set up a meeting which lets others join if they choose. Also, you can use Meet Me Paging to set up a meeting on a page zone.
Streamlining Your Telephone's Operation Set up Automatic Route Selection (ARS) to choose the most cost-effective service for outgoing calls. Or, you can use Toll Restriction to block those expensive, unnecessary long distance calls. If you have different companies using the same system, use Tenant Service to give each company their own set of extensions and trunks.

To monitor traffic patterns, have
Station Message Detail Recording or Traffic Management Reports print a record of your system's calls. Control the power and flexibility of system extensions through Class of Service. Some sites have unique numbering considerations like matching phone numbers to room numbers in a school. If yours does, you'll appreciate Flexible System Numbering.
Other Powerful System Options Add digital recording and playback capabilities with a Voice Announce Unit (VAU). You'll get Voice Prompting Messages, Personal Greeting, Automated Attendant with single digit dialing and Park and Page.

Set up a data network using the Data Communications Interface (DCI). Install a DCI Module into any Super Display, 28- or 34-Button Display phone, or plug a stand-alone 3-DCI Module into an available digital station port.

Use analog Single Line Telephones to set up a traditional PBX-type system. With the 2-OPX Module, you can connect the Single Line Telephones to the same common equipment used for digital phones. The 2-OPX Module also lets you connect to fax machines or an off-site extension.

Connect music sources for Music on Hold using a 3-ACI analog interface. It also gives you more external paging ports and relays for amplifier control.
